The Pepper Fieldlithographic print, 2008 "The Pepper Field" addresses dreams and the unconscious all spun into one. The dreamer is neither awake nor asleep, and I believe this mystery is reflected in the piece. As the artist, the piece was inspired by mid-summer night dreams, in which, I am not always certain I am dreaming, and often feel projected into my own dreams. The woman fairy in the pepper is inside a dream. However, the pepper is sliced open to represent that she is not entirely in a dream world, but of both worlds of consciousness.
2010, June 19- July 19: Melodic Imagery, O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP Office Building, Oakville, ON Corresponding Poem: July A dream so long ago the storm battled from yonder its form with your soul the earth is shattering tastes of a song's notes hung in the sky many miles above and yet drifting near I your words made me weep as I clamoured to sleep that still night dead in the month of July
In a burial gown I laid those secrets to rest in the dust of their forlorn doom, unrest, screeching their fury of varied digest as the voices played demons to the soul in my chest. I scampered around and without a sound, danced wayward in stride abandoning these feelings in the field in their cry hoping they'd cease as they very well die. |
